Site names are now prominently featured in search results.
Google continuously plays around with how it displays search results. Sometimes it messes around with the URL, either truncating it or removing it altogether.
Today, it announced that it’s adding a new element to mobile search: site names. It has been testing this feature for several weeks.
The site name is prominently displayed above the domain name for the search result (see the example to the right).
Google uses a number of sources to identify the site name and owners can suggest their preferred name using structured data.
The domain name is shown below the title with the primary domain and then breadcrumbs for subdirectories.
Note that the mobile search results are prominently displaying favicons, too. Google recommends website owners provide a favicon that’s at least 48 pixels.
