Company throws its hat into a crowded ring of companies selling alt-root domain names.
Pool.com, a long-time player in the domain drop-catching business, has a new business model.
The business has a relaunched as a web3 domain name business. It seems to operate a bit like Handshake in that it allows people to register top level domains and sell second level domains under those.
According to the site:
Pool.com offers you access to purchase your own unique Top Level Domain in Web3. It also offers the ability to mint and distribute Second Level Domains, and allows you to sell Second Level Domains to others. Got a great idea for a top level domain like .running that you want to sell to the world? We enable you to do all of that easily.
Sounds a bit complicated? We are the experts and are here to help. Our 24/7 call centre team will fully support all your web3 needs.
The company is running a sunrise period for trademark holders to register their marks as a “Pool Infinity Domain”. It has earmarked some domains for the sunrise. If they aren’t claimed by the mark owner by March 10, they will be available to the general public.
Pool.com charges $25,000 to register a top level domain for two years. It also charges a 30% commission for second level domains sold through the platform.
Second level domains in many extensions (including emojis) are available for $5.
Of course, one of the challenges here is name collisions, especially with Handshake domains. Right now, I can register .startup in Pool Infinity Domains. Namecheap currently offers second level registrations under the same string on Handshake.

I will rather use “startup.com.example.com” (unless startup.com is trademarked) or “startup.example.com” than these web3/4/5 or handshake domains.
PageHowe.com says

” There are no guarantees with TLDs and/or Domain Names offered on or through the Platform. You may not be able to renew TLDs and/or Domain Names offered on or through the Platform upon expiration and there’s a chance the TLD or Domain Name you purchase could stop functioning prior to expiration. ”
You shall be responsible for ensuring, to your own satisfaction, the technical accessibility and feasibility of a TLD and/or Domain Name prior to purchasing it and thereafter. You acknowledge and agree that TLD(s) and Domain Name(s) are provided “as is”, “with all faults” and “as available.”
now thats what i call CYA, pretty light on any glimpse of a plan. wonder how they got a credit card processor to take money, , im thinking this may not last.

No mention of Decentraweb? I think it wins the web3 TLD race. Solid team and more developers than Handshake
